Nikki Reichard Keddie^[1] (née Anita Ragozin, August 30, 1930)^[2] is an American scholar of Eastern, Iranian, and women's history.

She is Professor Emerita of History at University of California, Los Angeles.^[3]

The book also includes a brief autobiography that recounts Keddie's political activism as one of the first women in Middle East Studies.

Nikki Keddie is one of the major scholars involved in this development, both as a contributing participant and as a critical observer.

She is currently at work on the subject of hygiene and human- ism in the modern Middle East.

She received her B.A. at Radcliffe College, her M.A. from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught at University of Arizona and Scripps College in Claremont, California, before joining University of California, where she taught mainly Middle Eastern and Iranian history and eventually became full professor.^[3]
