Biography of Woody Herman
Woody Herman, an American jazz clarinetist, was born on May 16, 1913, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
His full name was Woodrow Charles Thomas Herman. His father was a professional singer and a member of the vocal ensemble "White Citi Four," and Woody began performing with him in vaudeville shows and theaters and bars in Milwaukee from the age of six.
At the age of nine, he was already playing the saxophone professionally, and by fourteen, he had mastered the clarinet.
During his time in high school, Woody Herman took private lessons to further his musical education, which he continued at Marquette University.
